The Wirz Electronics' Stamp Stick One
A Basic StampTM Compatible SimmStickTM Processor Board

The Wirz Electronics’ Stamp Stick One is Parallax, Inc. BASIC StampTM One compatible Single Board Computer. It utilizes a genuine Parallax, Inc. BASIC StampTM Interpreter IC. It is fully SimmStickTM compatible allowing it to be used with the wide variety of SimmStickTM prototyping and hardware expansion boards that are available from multiple vendors. SimmStickTM has the form factor of a 30 Pin SIMM Memory Module. They are designed to be easily plugged together to form hardware circuits using a SIMM Socket back plane or by direct connection with pin headers. The small form factor and onboard power supply makes Stamp Stick useful for stand-alone applications also.

The Stamp Stick will work with the free development tools available from Parallax, Inc. It is ideal for educational and hobby electronics purposes. An on-board header is supplied for In-Circuit Programming making development simple and fast. Stamp Stick is further unique in offering a large prototyping area such that the user can easily add peripheral IC’s such as an EEPROM, ADC, or even a battery backed up Real Time Clock.

Downloads & Additional Information:

The Stamp Stick One is a clone of the Parallax, Inc Basic StampTM One in a SimmStickTM form factor.  It uses a nearly identical circuit and has a genuine Parallax, Inc Basic StampTM One Interpreter IC.  The main difference is that the SimmStickTM One has a more powerful low drop out regulator and a large onboard prototyping area.  It is therefore 100% compatible with all of the Basic StampTM One development tools as well as the code examples and application notes.  Please visit the Parallax, Inc Website for Additional information about the Basic StampTM One

You will need to download the following items:

1) The Basic StampTM One Datasheet (3.2 MB)

2) BASIC StampTM One Editor for DOS (15 KB) This is the software required to program the Stamp Stick One.

3) You may also want to download one of their numerous application notes.

Quick Start Instructions:

The Stamp Stick One arrives factory programmed with a simple Walking LED Program so you can quickly verify its operation.  Data Output pins 0 through 7 are sequentially driven high.  If the board is connected to a DT.203 LED & Switch Module, the LED's will appear to walk from left to right and repeat.

1)  Since the DT.003 has an onboard regulator, Jumper P3 should be removed to disable the Stamp Stick One's onboard regulator.

2)  Mount both the DT.203 LED & Switch Module and the Stamp Stick One into SIMM Sockets on the DT.003.  Example Picture

3)  Apply power to the DT.003.  The LED's should light one after another from left to right.

4)  Now that you have verified the Stamp Stick One is operating correctly, you can try reprograming it with our sample program.  Power down the DT.003.

5)  Attach the Basic StampTM One Programming Cable's DB-25 to free printer port on your PC.  Attach the pin connecter to header P1 on the Stamp Stick One.  The white arrow on the plug should go towards pin#1 denoted by the thick white line on the Stamp Stick One and the square pad on the header.

6)  Apply power to the DT.003 and run the BASIC StampTM One Editor program on your PC.  After the program starts press <ALT> L and load the TEST.BAS program.

7)  Press <ALT> R to compile and download the program. A status bar should appear as the program downloads, press enters after it finishes. If the program fails to download, make sure you are using the correct printer port.  LPT1 is the default port but others can be specified, see editor documentation for more information.  You should again see the walking LED's in action.

8) At this point you are ready to start writing your own programs in PBASIC!  If you have never worked with a Basic StampTM before, download the datasheet from the Parallax, Inc. website and look over the code samples and PBASIC syntax.  Try modifying the TEST.BAS program.

*  These instructions assume you have an assembled DT-003 Motherboard and DT-203 LED & Switch Module.  If you do not have these boards, the circuitry could be built onto a bread board.
